Welcome to The Bluebell Music Academy.

My name is Lorraine Migliorini. I am a professional musician and teacher.  Born in Holborn, London in 1965 to parents of Italian and Anglo-Portuguese descent, I displayed interest in music from a very young age. My parents found me my first piano teacher, a blind man who sadly is no longer with us. His lack of sight was invaluable to me; he honed my musical ‘ear’ to a very high standard whereby I can listen to a piece, play it and then re-write it, if necessary, at different levels. A most useful tool for all standards and abilities of pupils who are craving to play their favourite tune, especially teenagers undertaking GCSE/A level in this subject.

I am primarily a teacher, then a performer. Passionate about passing on information, I would like to think this is evident through the music and careers of my students, a few of whom have continued to be successful musicians/performers in their own right.

I myself am a pianist and violinist and have grade 8 in both, with distinctions on violin and in theory, too. I also play the guitar to a lesser level.

I studied at a London Conservatoire – The Royal College of Music - where I attained my first degree, following this with a post-graduate certificate at Goldsmith’s College, London University. I have been a teacher/Head of Music in state schools with over 20 years experience, having retired early to set up my own business in order to teach music the way it should be taught; without restrictions amongst children and adults who choose and want to learn.

My own performing skills include playing the violin in a local Symphony Orchestra, playing piano in hotels and restaurants and at other functions and events including the organ at weddings and funerals and I am an official accompanist for festivals and formal examinations.

I am currently the Concert Director for the two final prestigious events at the end of the Leigh Music Festival which takes place annually.

What The Bluebell Music Academy (BMA) offers...

  • Teaching takes place in my home.  (Tuition can be arranged in your home within reason, but a minimal charge must be added to reflect time and travel).
  • A variable learning musical experience depending on what you wish to accomplish.  Teaching technique is adapted to suit the needs of the individual pupil.
  • The Associated Board of Music examination system from grades 1 to 8 or merely a course for personal and leisurely enjoyment.
  • GCSE and ‘A’ level supplementary help alongside school courses is available or if you wish to pursue the above from scratch, this is achievable too.  (Set works are often difficult to comprehend in the school/classroom environment, therefore 1-1 attention has proved invaluable to many, if just a short course of lessons are booked).
  • The opportunity to perform in festivals is encouraged since there is no better way to develop, grow in confidence and share your progress and enjoyment with others.  Group music-making (ie. chamber ensembles) are constructed for the purpose of performing in The Southend and Leigh Festivals each year and all students are encouraged and afforded the opportunity to participate.  (We won GOLD for both festivals last year).
  • Theory tuition, especially for those pupils who are undertaking a practical grade 6 course on any instrument and need Grade 5 theory in order to continue further.
  • For very young pupils, half-hour is normally the maximum lesson time I would recommend.  For older/more advanced musicians, this would normally be extended to 45 or 60 minutes as appropriate.  Most of the lesson will focus on playing skills, but toward the end of the lesson, some time is dedicated to music theory.  It is advised that GCSE / degree students have 1 and half hours per week.
  • Value for money.  My charges are competitive and cheaper than local music shops offering the same service.
